1. Human Rights and Democracy: How has democracy and human rights shaped and been shaped by globalization? -Human rights are equality, freedom, peace, hope, dignity, prosperity, and justice. I believe that we do not experience human rights as much as we should be. People are still treated badly, discriminated against race, religion, gender, ect. those are the things that are making human rights invisible. Human rights are not followed even though there are laws in place. Human rights and democracy are related because democracy in the government means that they protect and provide people with human rights. 2. Quality of Life: How has global awareness affected quality of life?

To what extent does globalization contribute to sustainable prosperity for all people? Sustainable prosperity is the practise of stewardship of the environment and resources for the future generation are able to reach prosperity. Economic growth depends on the businesses that produce goods and services faster and at a lower cost. Continuous growth creates more prosperity for everyone in the country. Economic growth is measured by the rate a country's income grows each year, GDP measures this. Economic growth inspired trade liberalization which will ensure prosperity for all. Trade liberalization is the process of countries reducing or removing trade barriers so that goods and services can move around the world more freely.
At the beginning of 1652, the Dutch, Portuguese, French, and British colonized South Africa. As a result of this; Indigenous people’s land and rights were stripped away from them, and Indigenous people and Indian immigrants were discriminated and were treated as lower class. Then in 1926, the population of black people outgrew white people in a ratio of 10-1. The government didn’t like being outnumbered, so they passed a bunch of laws so that black people couldn’t vote and this way white people stayed on top. After World War 2, independence was demanded by Indigenous people, so the government introduced an apartheid, laws that separated everyone by the colour of their skin and put them into racial groups. When they were separated into racial groups every race got put into a class, meaning they each went to separate schools and had certain jobs.
The Fair Trade Organization is a non- profit organization that monitors companies when they are selling products and they make sure that the products meet the proper standards of trade before being sold. They make sure that when a small farmer company sells its products to a store, they get a fair price out of the profit that the product makes. This organization also helps to reduce and/or eliminate child labour by helping to create healthier and safer workplaces, and they help strengthen workers' rights.
The Fair Trade Organization came about because of conflicts like the banana wars. The Fair Trade Organization Canada headquarters is stationed in Ottawa, Canada and the Fair Trade Organization international headquarters is stationed in Bonn, Germany. The Canadian organization was created in 1988 and has since spread to 20 developed countries and monitors 20 products. I did my 4-H speech on this topic and I believe that this organization is a very good and helpful organization because farmers don't get the profit and respect that they deserve and the Fair Trade Organization helps to make sure that they get the respect and profit that they deserve. |
